#nevet

  1. Chronos Hey look, people rediscovering 1970s Pascal ;)
  2. Chronos ...number ranges!
  3. * nevet joined #nevet
  4. * dreamreal!~dreamreal@about/java/dreamreal changed the topic to: This is the channel for the development of the software that runs nevet: https://github.com/jottinger/streampack
  5. dreamreal dynamodb=<reply>Dynamo is an AWS document database that guarantees eventual consistency. That means it usually responds within a short amount of time... but there are no guarantees. It's fully acceptable that a write takes place after a month of being issued. Good luck out there!
  6. nevet ok, dreamreal: updated dynamodb.
  7. dreamreal dynamodb.url=https://aws.amazon.com/dynamodb/
  8. nevet ok, dreamreal: updated dynamodb.
  9. dreamreal dynamodb.seealso=virtually anything else
  10. nevet ok, dreamreal: updated dynamodb.
  11. dreamreal dynamodb
  12. nevet Dynamo is an AWS document database that guarantees eventual consistency. That means it usually responds within a short amount of time... but there are no guarantees. 13. blue dreamreal: dynamodb sounds like real nonsense!
  14. blue incidentally, pretty much like everything else amazon does
  15. blue jreicher: thanks for the link, will read!
  16. dreamreal It apparently works quite well for some jobs, I just don't know what they'd be
  17. dreamreal I despise dynamo
  18. jreicher Do you despise nosql generally?
  19. jreicher (I'm undecided about it, largely due to lack of experience)
  20. dreamreal not in the least
  21. jreicher So just dynamo then. :)
  22. dreamreal not esp impressed with redis either, and memcached can screw right off as well
  23. jreicher We should all go back to BerkeleyDB.
  24. dreamreal redis is at least functional
  25. dreamreal pffft
  26. blue dreamreal doesn't despise nosql. in fact he likes mongodb afaik
  27. dreamreal to be fair to memcached, it's a simple k/v store that does not pretend to be a viable system of recod, and it shouldn't, because it's not
  28. dreamreal I like a lot of nosql systems, honestly
  29. blue for some reason the js community is strongly against mongodb, which is a testimony to their mental misacuity
  30. blue something something about security issues, which apparently no other system ever has
  31. dreamreal most of the angst against mongodb is badly out of date, based around transactionality, in my experience
  32. blue YES
  33. dreamreal transactions used to be delimited to documents
  34. blue your experience has been parsed, verified and is assessted to be mostly correct
  35. blue assessed, even
  36. blue also there's the typical license clowning, involved
  37. dreamreal yeah, well
  38. blue because companies mayn't make money!
  39. dreamreal yeah, exactly
  40. blue imagine investing in a product, paying developers, for some unrelated peanut to come around and have an opinion about you relicensing YOUR work
  41. dreamreal I mean, I get it on all sides: I want access, too! but i also think that a company has to survive to provide more value to its users
  42. blue like, I wrote about 99.99% of primate: I can relicense to whatever the heck I want and I don't give a damn
  43. dreamreal +1
  44. blue I'm obviously not going to do that because it wouldn't benefit me, but in an alternate universe where it did, why not
