#nevet

  1. dreamreal jreicher: that bridge is actually pretty nice. :D
  2. jreicher The RSS one?
  3. jreicher Or matrix?
  4. jreicher Or you mean generally cross protocols? Sorry I'm slowly reading backlog.
  5. dreamreal it's not matrix, but there's a feature where you can literally say "hey, mirror content from THIS service to THAT service"
  6. dreamreal so I have it connected to discord and IRC, and it's mirroring content between those two channels: it can be one-way or two-way.
  7. jreicher Is it right to characterise that as a harmonisation layer? (It's a term I hear a lot but I'm not sure anyone ever defines it.)
  8. dreamreal I dunno, it could be? I thought of it as a bridge, *like* matrix - it'd be a really awful matrix clone if so.
  9. jreicher I'm guessing what you had to do is abstract out features common to all protocols and represent them in a protocol-agnostic way in the bridge?
  10. dreamreal nope!
  11. jreicher Oh. :) OK, what did you do?
  12. dreamreal It's actually WAY easier: it's an operation that examines content as it slides by: "is this a mirror source? Cool, just add an extra distribution for the output stream"
  13. dreamreal the egress adapters look for content that they're supposed to echo, so ... they go "oh look I need to echo this"
  14. jreicher Oh so what goes across the bridge is "pure content"?
  15. dreamreal so basically input comes in on channel A, which is marked as a mirror SOURCE, and the operation goes "Oh, mark this as going to channel B too"
  16. dreamreal yep, it's provenanced (sourced) and output is routed by provenance, and input:output provenance is 1:M by design
  17. jreicher I'd be really interested in knowing what metadata gets lost in that, if the question makes sense. I'm curious if it would indicate metadata that never added value in the first place and is the kind of bells and whistles that normally drives me away from platforms.
  18. dreamreal What do you mean by "lost metadata?"
  19. dreamreal I guess "in that" applies, too
  20. jreicher Ah I wasn't sure if the question would make sense, partly because I don't know about the protocols. But I'm guessing that some of the platforms support comments/replies/? that can't straightforwardly be bridged to other protocols, and I'm wondering what happens in that case.
  21. dreamreal provenance is "protocol, authority, source, additional data" - it's a URL - so discord provenance looks like "discord", "", guild id, channel id, and originating id
  22. dreamreal on slack, it's "irc", "", server name, channel name, nick
  23. dreamreal although the user data is actually embedded as a user principal, it's split out
  24. jreicher Do you have some sample bridging? (I have to head off in a bit but I'm very curious about that.)
  25. dreamreal see #primate on this server
  26. dreamreal this can be very quick :D
  27. dreamreal hurry, though, because MY time is limited too
  28. dreamreal aight, I gotta take off. I'll show you tomorrow or next week or something
  29. jreicher I've joined #primate. I'll keep an eye on it.
  30. dreamreal Let's try something: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNDWnMfDnuw

  44. jottinger There we go!
  45. bot [Enigmastation.com] I was wrong. Starfleet Academy is struggling - https://enigmastation.com/blog/2026/02/14/i-was-wrong-starfleet-academy-is-struggling.html
  46. jottinger hey, it works!
  47. Chronos dreamreal: Is nevet usable by anyone in this channel?
  48. jottinger of course, but some ops are gated
  49. jottinger like, you can't add a feed or subscribe, that's an admin operation
  50. jottinger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO92ghzp_vQ testing
  51. nevet dreamreal mentioned url: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO92ghzp_vQ ("- YouTube")
  52. jottinger Damn it
  53. jottinger Twitter title extraction is a no-go, BTW
  54. jottinger The youtube title introspection is ... "working?" I have tests that validate proper extraction but it's not propagating right yet :(
  55. jottinger you basically can't *control* the bot but you can inform it
  56. jottinger locking factoids is an admin operation
  57. jottinger feeds are all admin operations, bridging is an admin operation
  58. Chronos dreamreal: In the context of nevet, what's a feed?
  59. Chronos RSS feed?
  60. jottinger yeah
  61. jottinger 8ball
  62. nevet It's unclear.
  63. jottinger 8ball.literal
  64. nevet <reply>(Yes|No|Maybe|Ask me( tomorrow| again| again tomorrow)|It's (unclear|unknowable)).
  65. jottinger :D
  66. jottinger aight, BBIAB
  67. Chronos 8ball Is dreamreal a little crazy?
  68. Chronos Awww.
  69. blue dreamreal: yo, wrong url in the topic!
  70. jottinger heh
  71. jottinger It's an actual factoid, not an operation
  72. jottinger blue: the repo isn't public, so nyaaah
  73. jottinger * dreamreal wibbles
