#java

  1. deebo for some reason broker reminded me of kingston wall, but on maybe on too much ambien or something :)
  2. dreamreal https://bytecode.news/posts/2026/10/where-is-all-the-new-good-software (also has audio!)
  3. javabot dreamreal's title: "Nate Meyvis: Where is all the new, good software? | ByteCode.News"
  4. [twisti] think what you will about lombok, but vscode defaulting to 'default plugin version of lombok if plugin version and project version differs' is the dumbest decision ever. when would anyone EVER want a default to overwrite a specifically set version ?
  5. dreamreal Maybe it's to make sure vscode actually supports lombok accurately - like if lombok changes, the vscode support might break, and this protects against that? I dunno, I don't use lombok or vscode :/
  6. [twisti] and of course they bundle the plugin with an unreleased indev version, which they then default to. entirely sensible
  7. deebo using vscode for java seems like a weird situation
  8. Para It's the active refusal of accepting that old folks now better.
  9. Para But I digress; I don't really care that much, if it works for you, then you do you.
  10. Para Although for this particular situation, it's Lombok...I wish it was friendlier across the board.
  11. Para In IDE news, JetBrains is merging Air with IDEA in 2026.3 release.
  12. Para I can't really even say what Air specifically is (agent chat-harness-management-thingy) so maybe it's a good thing.

  16. comrad vscode works pretty fine for java
  17. llanhmock Para: they make a somewhat dark and scary claim about the software development system era being contained in one window is ending. like, containment is no longer an option? and most sdlc workflows are already reaching out past the IDE. we have terminal windows, browser windows, and remote devices.
  18. llanhmock heh, then they say "verifying work inside the JetBrains IDEs". so..we are back to a single window again?
  19. * llanhmock maybe I'm missing something
  20. llanhmock anyway, thanks for sharing, Para. It's right up my alley and directly in realm of my daily work$.
  21. Para llanhmock: I guess on some very high level IDEs should be seen as workspace window managers with deep integration between each window.
  22. Para If you start from there, you can paint any truth you want.
