#java

  1. jreicher https://javabot.evanchooly.com/ is still dead
  2. NeXeN it's not dead it's just a bad gateway
  3. jreicher Grr. New version of Git for Windows has lost the ability to use an "external" ssh. Annoying.
  4. NeXeN might have been a security vuln, and removing for the time being was simply a workaround?
  5. jreicher NeXeN: Nah I'm pretty sure it's a mistake. https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues/6374
  6. nevet v2.55.0.windows.5 installer always bundles OpenSSH, also overwrites previously saved choice of ExternalOpenSSH · Issue #6374 · git-for-windows/git
  7. NeXeN gotta review those llm contribs
  8. Para Was it Claude Code which ships with a copy of LibreOffice.
  9. Para big number must go up
  10. nimaje hm, for some reason I expect that 'copy' being a reimplementation primary guided by the original source code from the training set, but still with some diffrences, don't ask me why I have that expectation…
  11. Para No, it's literally just a copy of the executables and dll:s.
  12. Para As if someone piped the installer to project dir, did git add * and punched it onwards.
  13. dreamreal nevet's about to get gitlab support :D
  14. Para forgejo next
  15. dreamreal Well, if I can support github AND gitlab, adding other forges is relatively easy
  16. node1 Hi.
  17. dreamreal hi node1
  18. node1 hello dreamreal what you doing?
  19. dreamreal nothing of much import
  20. Para forgejo is codeberg and lots of self-hosted ones (and technically speaking most giteas as well) so it'd be merely logical :)
  21. dreamreal Para: the difference is that I have projects on github and gitlab, but not gitea, etc., so any request to do so is external and ephemeral :D
  22. dreamreal i.e., when I see someone with an actual need for their support, it'll be relatively easy to add
  23. node1 How is Java doing?
  24. dreamreal until then it's YAGNI
  25. dreamreal node1: fantastically! ... as it's pretty much always done
  26. node1 I am looking for paid projects to work on JAVA worked alot on Python
  27. dreamreal java's biggest challenge came from a possible perl5/python2 stagnation, but it avoided the problem
  28. dreamreal I'm not entirely sure HOW but hey
  29. dreamreal hmm, that's something worth researching and documenting, I think
  30. node1 I am looking for a java work.
  31. dreamreal node1: we saw. That's not really this kind of channel. People hire here, but it's not a "hi, hire me" process. You get hired by showing up and interacting and demonstrating your competency and approach.
  32. dreamreal We *network*, we don't *filter* based on resumes or CVs.
  33. dreamreal And while you may be the rock star we've all been looking for, there are people we *know* who are looking for jobs - and they're far easier to trust. Because we know them. So become known. Then if an opportunity shows up where you're the right fit, you get shortlisted. That's how networking works.
  34. Para This is also a global channel, so it'd be very much too complex to hire random people from IRC for most.
  35. dreamreal And if you show yourself as a jerk - surely a remote possibility - well, that means something too.
  36. dreamreal Para: worth noting: I got my current job from IRC. :D
  37. Para dreamreal: ssshh, I've been recruited over IRC once as well
  38. dreamreal I've done it multiple times. networking is networking. The specific network is not especially relevant.
  39. dreamreal slack, discord, IRC, whatever
  40. node1 I'm not new here. I've been on IRC for more than 20 years and have worked with a few IRC/Freenode communities.
  41. node1 You could check my nick registeration.
  42. node1 I understand what you're saying about becoming known and demonstrating competency
  43. node1 I've built several full-stack projects, mainly in Python and some in C. You can see my work at computelabs.in. It is also a real business and generates revenue. If you'd like to know more about me professionally, I can share my LinkedIn as well.
  44. node1 And yes, I'm a trusted person you can trust me
  45. node1 my project is up now
  46. dreamreal have you been in THIS channel
  47. dreamreal Nobody's questioning your IRC cred, it's that we don't know you
  48. dreamreal and nothing says "I'm trustable" like someone TELLING you they're trustable :D
  49. node1 . No, I haven't been active in this particular channel for long. I was mainly hang in linux python and electronics
  50. node1 and other channel
  51. node1 saying it doesn't prove anything. I'll let my actions and contributions speak for themselves. I'm happy to stick around and get to know everyone here.
  52. dreamreal node1: ++
  53. nevet node1 now has karma of 1.
  54. node1 :)
  55. jreicher javabot still MIA
