  1. dmlloyd any bazel fans in the house?
  2. dmlloyd I can't say I am, because of some really weird decisions they made, but a Quarkus contributor wrote an (admittedly AI-assisted) essay about Quarkus+bazel integration that is frankly a fascinating read: https://github.com/quarkusio/quarkus/discussions/54762
  3. nevet First-class Bazel support for Quarkus · quarkusio/quarkus · Discussion #54762
  4. javabot dmlloyd's title: "First-class Bazel support for Quarkus · quarkusio/quarkus · Discussion #54762 · GitHub"
  5. dreamreal I'm not exactly a bazel fan, because it's sort of a broad tool
  6. dreamreal but the polyglot nature of bazel might make sense for the java-25-ffm-enabled world
  7. cheeser we use it in most of our repos here except for the kotlin/micronaut repo i work most of the time in.
  8. cheeser still no fucking clue how to use it. i let claude figure it out and hope for the best.
  9. dreamreal I've got gradle calling out to rust for a native module
  10. Tenchi dreamreal: how do people handle the java ffm world at the moment ?
  11. dreamreal "poorly"
  12. dreamreal we actually have to use JNI, as we formally target Java 17
  13. Tenchi i was just typing '"poorly" is a valid response'
  14. dreamreal We can't enable FFM for our clients
  15. cheeser you can if you have the will to. if you're strong enough.
  16. dreamreal Spoken like someone who doesn't know who our clients are :D
  17. cheeser nor care! ;)
  18. dreamreal or care, right :D
  19. cheeser (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
  20. dreamreal besides, JNI is working for our spikes... well enough that we might be able to get the spikes accepted
  21. jbosmans i thought ffm was still in preview as of 25, but realized i confused it with the vector api
  22. jbosmans *got it mixed up with
  23. dmlloyd smart people use `smallrye-ffm` 🧠
  24. Para I might actually next week try to do Something with it.
  25. comrad I use the Java 25 ffi just today. Seems nice than creating header files for JNI
  26. dreamreal dmlloyd: does it work on java 17, though
  27. dmlloyd it'll work on java 17 code... you'll get some errors at run time though!
