  2. javabot dreamreal's title: "The Wrong Unit | bytecode.news"
  3. pingveno I've been scratching my head over how to do this. We have some dependencies that we currently vendor as `.jar` files that are included by Ant as part of a vendor-provided build system. I'm trying to figure out a better system for managing them, like maybe a `pom.xml` + Maven. Is there a good way to track the versions and then output to a particular directory (`web/WEB-INF/lib`)?
  4. dreamreal pingveno: almost certainly yes but without knowing more detail...
  5. dreamreal What about maven is not working?
  6. pingveno Maven isn't part of the build system, to start with, so it's just not present. The build system is a bunch of janky Ant scripts.
  7. pingveno I'm trying to get just the result of the jars from the dependencies into the given directory.
  8. dreamreal well, stop being janky, #1
  9. pingveno I'm not well versed in Java, to be completely honest. Like, I can write Java okay, but I'm not great with the tooling.
  10. DoofusCanadensis my answer to vendored files was to put them into a maven repository
  11. dreamreal ^^^
  12. dreamreal is this for YOUR build, or for consumers?
  13. dreamreal I mean, I'm not quite clear who this is for or why, if it's all internal, just copy the files, done
  14. dreamreal using ant is icky but sometimes non-negotiable
  15. DoofusCanadensis Ant is still a capable build tool
  16. pingveno Oh, right. It's an internal customization for a vendor product.
  17. pingveno Sailpoint, an IDM
  18. DoofusCanadensis we were using an IFS library that was provided as jars. I got excited when I saw them include a pom.xml in one of the download versions, but on investigation, the Maven support was for a specific customer and shouldn't have been available to anybody else.
  19. pingveno Another customer published a maven integration for the build system, but the one and only release was back in 2023.
  20. jreicher I have not enjoyed using sailpoint, as a user.
  21. pingveno I have not enjoyed using Sailpoint, as a developer. That said, it's fairly capable.
  22. pingveno Except now they really, really seem to want us to go to the cloud. But that's a whole different story.
