sirecmgah yeah I have used intellij for work and it’s great! outside of work i use other programming languages that are vim friendly

jreicherJava is not unfriendly to vim. It's just that vim might not be so good for large codebases. Less to do with the language and more to do with project size, IMO.

nimajefor smaller projects vim works great and you don't have the problem that the intellij vim plugin (while being good) just isn't vim, but I have the feeling that java scales worse than other languages for developing at larger sizes without heavy ide tooling

Optici really like intellij and i learn about new features all the time. i wish they wouldn’t spend so much dev and marketing budget pushing ai but that’s just the timeline we’re in.
Optici’ve been using it for like 10 years and i’m still finding new stuff 😂

NeXeNi like it, but at the time i used it in prod it was kinda sluggish and i was coming off netbeans and there wasn't a similar feature in intellij that i could find without paying for, and i just wasn't really into it
NeXeNvsclones mostly all work with java now so it's sort of the default for me since i work with all sorts of stuff and i don't wanna fool with webstorm or whatever intellij has for web stuff

[twisti]i use vscode because i work with like 30 languages and i dont want a different ide for each one, but honestly i felt eclipse outclasses vscode, kinda sorry to abandon it
jreicher[twisti]: For Java, at least, the code intelligence in VSCode is from Eclipse. It should be the same.
[twisti]It's been too long so I don't recall off hand, I think the refactoring is one area where it lagged behind a LOT

Opticintellij paid version does a lot of languages really well, it has nice built in support for jupyter notebook which i use quite often
[twisti]Sadly, while what I do these days is exciting (devops), much of it is done in the worst 'language' imaginable (Ansible, which is YAML plus Jinja2)
