  36. dreamreal morning
  37. GreenResponse 👋️
  38. hassoon nice emoji character
  39. dreamreal he made it himself
  40. dreamreal out of humans
  41. dreamreal that's always been the best part of frankenstein: what if you built a robot but instead of out of parts you used humans
  42. dreamreal in shelley the replica was good but still a replica, it's a commentary on being the thing you are supposed to be (the monster is not), in the movies the parts were insufficient to the ask
  43. GreenResponse organic tissue still beats the inorganic machinery, only in Japanese animation robots are fully operational

  47. dreamreal Some of those portrayals are awful. And stupid. But people seem to like 'em. Huh, people are terrible and stupid.
  48. dreamreal Film at 11.

  50. Para dreamreal: I've had an idea for a near-future scifi war story where the premise is that specops agents have the ability to jump across the battlefield from one corpse to another, idea being that they have neural implants which can take over the body once the person is dead.
  51. Para re: building robots out of human parts
  52. dreamreal like altered carbon except on the battlefield?
  53. dreamreal The problem is that the corpse you'd jump into would be a corpse for a reason
  54. Para Something like that, yeah.
  55. Para And of course still with all the downsides of corpses, so rigor mortis and whatever.
  56. dreamreal not just rigor mortis but "this person died because a cannonball went through their torso."
  57. Para All you need is an arm to pull the trigger.
  58. dreamreal and a way to use the arm. But it's an interesting idea.
  59. Para Officially (in universe) the neural harness could be a full-body health monitor which is injected into the body and limbs. Really it's just alternative linkage to make the remoting not dependent on actual nervous system.
  60. Para All kinds of body horror/zombiefication possibilities for a good writer to explore.
  61. dreamreal You should write it. I know a lot of publishers.
  62. Para Friend of mine just spent a few days on a local book event because he's been writing shite on the side. His words, not mine :D
  63. Para Apparently the bar to entry is surprisingly low these days, especially if you're willing to write short stories to be included in collections and such.
  64. dreamreal Well, I have an "in" with a few short story publishers, like I said...
  65. dreamreal they tend towards more fantasy than scifi but even so
  66. dreamreal also: they've never published any of MY stuff, because it's too.... well... err... me
  67. dreamreal (I definitely agree with them: I write this existential conflict stuff and they're publishing light fantasy/horror things. One comment from them on one story was "you know even Cthulhu wouldn't be happy with the implications of this story, right?")
  68. dreamreal "And he's seen things. And BEEN those things."
  69. Para Another idea I've been thinking about is about a person who can fold space. Or rather collapse multiverses to one. Really it's just an extension of quantum suicide/immortality, but the problem is that while I have the gimmick I don't really have the story.
  70. nb-ben it happened to them while they spent their time in the toilet constipated, squeezing really hard

  72. enoq looking at line 64 https://dpaste.com/4VM9833DT#line-64 why is the chain called before actually populating values in the session? would that not execute all other filters first and only then populate the session?
  73. dreamreal chains are wrappers, decorators: they can have pre- and post-operative modes
  74. dreamreal and the filter might have other filters that run before this one: imagine a "host does not have an 'a' in the name" filter that is placed before this one
  75. dreamreal but yes, it implies that other filters run first

  83. dreamreal Para: I was thinking... imagine that FIRST RUN where the scientists deploy on their very first real battlefield. "Wait, in our tests the corpses were viable... we just sent MacGillicuddy into a body that was missing the entire top of its head and most of its right side. Did we... uh... prepare him for that? That corpse looks like it's trying to scream but has no lungs."
  84. Para dreamreal: Imagine being blown up and waking up in a corpse right next to your own.
  85. Para That kinda gives me title to work on. Dissociation.
  86. Para Also what if the body you jumped into somehow gets revived. I mean, what classifies as "jumpable". No brain activity? Or just severed?
  87. dreamreal * dreamreal nods
  88. dreamreal Now I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this, and I'm already imagining what I can do better :D
  89. Para I unfortunately have a lot of time this month to spend on being productive so I may have to figure out how to write a draft :)
  90. Para Can't build my VM infra from scratch every day either (which is what I did today)
