  40. * stfstfm_ joined #java
  41. Para No.
  42. Para Microslop is microslop, vibe coding is now slopmaxxing. Both for same reason; corporations don't dictate public discourse.

  71. jbosmans the thing i sort of dislike about the whole "is it worth it" etc (usually lack of nuance aside) is that purely "cheaply generating a bunch of code" was solved years ago in the outsourcing days
  72. jbosmans v1.0.0.0 of any meaningful/actually used code is only the very first step of a very long journey
  73. jbosmans BUT
  74. jbosmans of course, people with vested interest in LLM would say "just ask AI to do it for you in the future"
  75. jbosmans nevermind the context window is x times larger, same as for the cost
  76. jbosmans and of course, there remains "no one you can call"
  77. jbosmans so i don't think i'm an AI skeptic, but not looking forward to changing my profession into AI recipe/prompt expert either - per se
  78. GreenResponse everywhere I see “AI” label, I kill-it-with-fire.gif
  79. GreenResponse for example firefox browser
  80. jbosmans what the best/least bad option tho browser-wise
  81. jbosmans what's*
  82. jbosmans i've been using firefox since (maybe before?) it was called phoenix
  83. GreenResponse I meant to say “AI features” in firefox
  84. dreamreal pffft
  85. dreamreal we've been here before
  86. jbosmans and netscape 5/6 before that :')
  87. jbosmans GreenResponse, i tend to agree btw ^
  88. dreamreal https://bytecode.news/posts/2026/03/the-ai-dilemma
  89. javabot dreamreal's title: "The AI Dilemma | bytecode.news"
  90. GreenResponse I still use it, it’s the best browser on Earth, in my opinion and has big, shiny AI kill-switch
  91. jbosmans pretty soon someone will say, "why even browse yourself" etc
  92. jbosmans yeah, same
  93. jbosmans also uBlock Origin && NoScript
  94. leppard just needs one more know for restricting ram
  95. leppard like edge....
  96. jbosmans so yeah, i spend time unblocking hostnames like a nitwit
  97. leppard s/know/knob/
  98. jbosmans is edge better memory-wise than ff ?
  99. dreamreal no
  100. jbosmans could be it changed again over "recent times"
  101. jbosmans dreamreal, good article @ BCN :)
  102. jbosmans in my experience, it's often missed/unseen that instead of improving things, complexity is actually simply being moved around
  103. jbosmans alas, "simply" is in hindsight, because the moving around itself of said complexity is all but simple (or cheap)
  104. jbosmans usually it starts with someone saying "why don't we just <insert here>?"
  105. jbosmans fwiw, it's good to call things into question, also much better if person doing it has some understanding what "things" actually do today
  106. jbosmans sorry, i had to respond to "why don't we just all write it ourselves" during some meeting last week, with mgmt in the room
  107. jbosmans i was triggered :)
  108. jbosmans in any case, so much for playing the role of captain obvious :-)
