  2. dreamreal Chronos: at some point twisti decided he has a bug up his butt and it's shaped like me, for some reason.
  3. dreamreal I wonder how viable a vaadin front end would be for bytecode.news
  4. dreamreal I need to figure out what the net steps are for the site/bot: star traders is beckoning but I still think that interests me more than anything or anyone else :D
  5. Chronos Out of curiosity, I did end up asking Gemini if there was a cleaner/easier way to implement the builder pattern in Java, and it mentioned Lombok, which I had heard of before, but never looked into.
  6. dreamreal Lombok's done quite well for what it is, but it's rather brittle.
  7. Chronos What makes it brittle? Just curious; I have no intention of introducing it at work.
  8. Chronos And does Kotlin have better builder pattern support?
  9. dreamreal it's an annotation processor that digs into the compiler support, so when the compiler changes internals, so does lombok
  10. dreamreal Yeah, kotlin has FAR better DSL support for things like that
  11. Chronos Oh ouch. That does indeed sound _really_ brittle.
  12. dreamreal the compiler doesn't change that often! But it's still a dependency issue.
  13. Chronos Yep.
  14. dreamreal It also doesn't help that the authors are... prickly
  15. * Chronos raises an eyebrow.
  16. dreamreal really bright: surial is one of lombok's authors
  17. dreamreal but if you remember surial on #java...
  18. Chronos I recall the nick
  19. dreamreal in general, very bright, very helpful, very DEMANDING: if you weren't as smart as him, he'd let you know
  20. Chronos In my experience, extremely smart people almost always have, shall we say, weird shortcomings in other areas, that they have trouble seeing in themselves, or even if they do, have trouble changing their behavior, despite having that knowledge.
  21. Chronos That was a terrible sentence, heh.
  22. dreamreal What are you saying about me, you jerk
  23. * Chronos chuckles.
  24. * dreamreal grins
  25. dreamreal The thing is, surial and I talked about his interaction style, because he, uh, seemed willing to get annoyed pretty easily
  26. dreamreal and we worked it out: he asked me to let him know if I thought he was ramping up too much
  27. dreamreal and I did, and then he got offended and left #java :(

  29. Chronos Ah, bummer. Some people take IRC too seriously.
  30. dreamreal Hey, do me a favor?
  31. dreamreal Check https://bytecode.news/posts/2026/03/tela-a-userspace-private-cloud, see the links
  32. dreamreal they're linked to factoids

  36. Chronos dreamreal: The Cloudflare factoid link is broken
  37. Chronos All the rest work.
  38. dreamreal I'm changing the way those links work, I realized after asking you I didn't like it
  39. dreamreal cloudflare-link fixed, but I'm working on the rendering altogether
  40. dreamreal the cloudflare link was a typo: [[Cloudflare||cloudflare-tunnel]] (supposed to be one | not two)
  41. dreamreal I'm wondering about just consuming both forms, because | isn't a good thing to have in a factoid subject :D
  42. dreamreal but I think I'm going to leave it, because there're multiple rendering pipelines and I'd have to fix them all
  43. dreamreal (there's a client-side rendering pipeline where I have a merge waiting, and the backend pipeline; the frontend wikilink rendering isn't enabled yet because the merge is pending.)
