dreamrealWell, I'm a VERY poor judge of colors apart from contrast
dreamrealApparently I can see colors right now but I have decades of habitual ignorance to overcome
Chronosdreamreal: If you've ever used Lobsters ( https://lobste.rs ), that may have my favorite colors of the websites I visit most. Specifically, the *dark* theme.
dreamrealSo if you look at that graph, the red was all ONE COLOR for me, no gradient, and there were dots in the rest of the scale that didn't fit
ChronosOh my goodness. How fascinating.
dreamrealit wasn't my eyes, it was something in my brain
dreamrealMy kids got me a t-shirt that was red with red writing on it and didn't understand why I didn't think it was funny, I just thought it was a red shirt
ChronosThat's super interesting. It's all different colors to me.
dreamrealand they were like "look at what it says" ... it didn't have any lettering on it! It wasn't lithoed on or anything so there wasn't a contrast in textures, I literally couldn't see it
dreamrealthe reds were too close together
ChronosSomewhat related: I have tinnitus, which I understand is more than just damaged hearing, but also a neurological disorder. Broken brain!
dreamrealyeah
Chronosdreamreal: How fascinating. I wonder how many people have that same condition.
dreamrealHopefully very few
dreamreala few years ago, one summer I woke up and the world was *different*, everything looked very warm
dreamrealmy brain somehow fixed itself and I can apparently see colors better now
ChronosI can one-up you though: amblyopia. It suuuucks. It fucking fucking suuucks.
dreamrealbut I'm so used to ignoring them that any color-related problem is met with "not me"
dreamrealoh, that's... wandering eye, right?
Chronosdreamreal: Huh. I wonder if you could somehow slowly but surely train your brain to see more colors.
dreamrealChronos: I can apparently see them all now
dreamrealthat graph looks gradient all over, like it's supposed to
Chronosdreamreal: Yeah. In my case, though, I don't have one dominant eye. I use my left eye, until it gets "tired." Then I use my right eye, until it gets "tired." Repeat ad nauseum.
dreamrealbut if you ask me to make JUDGEMENT CALLS about color, the answer is "no"
dreamrealChronos: oof! I have a friend who developed a game for his son, with amblyopia, but I've never played it
ChronosThe worst part is making eye contact with people. I can align my eyes properly if I'm spending 20% of my brain power keeping them aligned. But if I stop, one of them wanders off, and people *really* don't like that. It freaks them out.
dreamrealhah, I bet
dreamrealwierdo
* dreamreal runs
* Chronos chuckles
Chronoss/JUDGEMENT/JUDGMENT/
dreamrealAnyway, filed an issue on centering
dreamrealI will never spell that properly, screw mirriam-webster, I KNOW GOODER
Chronosdreamreal: I'm not sure if I'm good at picking colors. It's pretty much limited to "I know what I like." Lobsters' dark theme is my favorite.
dreamrealNothing wrong with that
Chronosdreamreal: I feel like judgement should be a valid alternative spelling. It might even be correct in British English, or something.
ChronosAll that being said, I think most modern web browsers let you customize CSS per website, so I could (and probably should) do that on lots of websites.
ChronosAlthough it probably depends on the website. Some of them have the most mind-bending complex CSS...
