dreamrealjreicher: that bridge is actually pretty nice. :D
jreicherThe RSS one?
jreicherOr matrix?
jreicherOr you mean generally cross protocols? Sorry I'm slowly reading backlog.
dreamrealit's not matrix, but there's a feature where you can literally say "hey, mirror content from THIS service to THAT service"
dreamrealso I have it connected to discord and IRC, and it's mirroring content between those two channels: it can be one-way or two-way.
jreicherIs it right to characterise that as a harmonisation layer? (It's a term I hear a lot but I'm not sure anyone ever defines it.)
dreamrealI dunno, it could be? I thought of it as a bridge, *like* matrix - it'd be a really awful matrix clone if so.
jreicherI'm guessing what you had to do is abstract out features common to all protocols and represent them in a protocol-agnostic way in the bridge?
dreamrealnope!
jreicherOh. :) OK, what did you do?
dreamrealIt's actually WAY easier: it's an operation that examines content as it slides by: "is this a mirror source? Cool, just add an extra distribution for the output stream"
dreamrealthe egress adapters look for content that they're supposed to echo, so ... they go "oh look I need to echo this"
jreicherOh so what goes across the bridge is "pure content"?
dreamrealso basically input comes in on channel A, which is marked as a mirror SOURCE, and the operation goes "Oh, mark this as going to channel B too"
dreamrealyep, it's provenanced (sourced) and output is routed by provenance, and input:output provenance is 1:M by design
jreicherI'd be really interested in knowing what metadata gets lost in that, if the question makes sense. I'm curious if it would indicate metadata that never added value in the first place and is the kind of bells and whistles that normally drives me away from platforms.
dreamrealWhat do you mean by "lost metadata?"
dreamrealI guess "in that" applies, too
jreicherAh I wasn't sure if the question would make sense, partly because I don't know about the protocols. But I'm guessing that some of the platforms support comments/replies/? that can't straightforwardly be bridged to other protocols, and I'm wondering what happens in that case.
dreamrealprovenance is "protocol, authority, source, additional data" - it's a URL - so discord provenance looks like "discord", "", guild id, channel id, and originating id
dreamrealon slack, it's "irc", "", server name, channel name, nick
dreamrealalthough the user data is actually embedded as a user principal, it's split out
jreicherDo you have some sample bridging? (I have to head off in a bit but I'm very curious about that.)
dreamrealsee #primate on this server
dreamrealthis can be very quick :D

dreamrealhurry, though, because MY time is limited too
dreamrealaight, I gotta take off. I'll show you tomorrow or next week or something
jreicherI've joined #primate. I'll keep an eye on it.

Chronosdreamreal: Is nevet usable by anyone in this channel?
jottingerof course, but some ops are gated
jottingerlike, you can't add a feed or subscribe, that's an admin operation
